That’s a stretch, you say? How about this: Johnny was hoping for a good summer job so he could buy something he wanted badly that his parents wouldn’t buy for him, because they couldn’t afford it. But he couldn’t get a job because the kind of jobs a school student could do were non-existent because $15 an hour was a lot more than he was worth, with no experience at anything. He tried and tried, but found no jobs. Businesses laid off current employees because they just couldn’t afford to pay an employee worth maybe $8 an hour $15 an hour for the same work. It just is not economically feasible. Businesses set wage levels at a level they can afford to pay, and to raise the pay they have to pay, by law, means they raise their prices and lay people off, of shut their doors. So Johnny decided to stick up a convenience store to get the money he needs—ergo, more crime. Meanwhile, who pays that excessive minimum wage? YOU do. And I do. Because, to stay in business, the employers raise their prices to cover it—and WE pay the higher price or don’t buy their products and they go out of business. Government just doesn’t understand business and how it works, or they’d never make such laws and DICTATE what those employers MUST pay. In Seattle, the first city to pass a $15 an hour wage requirement, saw thousands of marginal businesses fold, immediately. It’s predictable this WILL happen. And Johnny ends up in prison with his life ruined because of ignorant politicians who think they know it all, while we pay higher prices for everything. (Just common sense)
