"I Can't Breathe!"
Should the cops have “lightened up” when Eric Garner said this? People in such
situations ALWAYS say this (One time when I was a paramedic, I helped cops
subdue a violent man in a hospital ER. HE claimed he couldn’t breathe, too, but
he was lying, But if you can’t breathe, how can you TALK?). They had no way of
knowing he WASN’T lying. Did they INTENTIONALLY kill the man for selling
cigarettes illegally? Should selling illegal cigarettes rate a death sentence? WAS
it a “choke hold?” I don’t know. I wasn’t there. I’ve heard the evidence in
this case, and in the Ferguson case. In Ferguson, the cop was clearly in the
right. In New York, not so much. But I’m not going to jump to any
conclusions—yet. Yes, he was wrong to sell cigarettes for a price lower than
the TAX on them, but neither should politicians lay on such a tax. It’s just
too much. Maybe morally, he shouldn’t have been arrested, at all. (Just common
sense)
