Denied Lifwe-Saving Medicine

The federal government made a law they SAID would “pay for my medicine” if I was on Social Security. Until that time, the maker supplied me with my most important medicine, Plavix, FREE because there was no way I could ever afford it. This medicine arrests the development of plaque in my arteries. Since that law, which made the maker supplying Plavix free ILLEGAL, I can no longer afford it, since, even with the feds paying SOME of it, it still costs me $150 a month. So now I no longer can get it, and will probably die early because of it. I wish there were some way I could sue the federal government for putting my life in danger this way. (Just common sense)

You should apply for Medicaid. That is a Safety Net program designed to help people falling through the cracks. Do apply for it.

Because of the rules in ObamaCare, there will be millions of early retirees eligible for Medicaid who make $64,000 a year because nobody read the bill before signing it into law. You would be eligible even without this glitch.

Anon: Medicaid is worse than Medicare. And it's WELFARE. I spend all my time cussing welfare. I won't be on it.

But you have paid into BOTH all of your life. It is there as a safety net, especially for our Elders when their earning capacity has greatly waned. You could use a little help to get your medication.

The fact is, these two programs are there to help people in need. You have not been a lazy man on welfare all of your life and that is not the reason you need help now. You need help now because at your age and health your earning capacity is dimished and you can physically only do so much. YOUR money went into both Medicare and Medicaid all of your working life! It is not welfare unless you never contributed to it. I have paid into both programs all of my life, too, and I am here to say that I want YOU to have benefit of these programs because you have EARNED them! Illegals coming into this country and automatically drawing money from these programs IS welfare for them because they never contributed to them.

You would be what is called a "Dual Eligible", receiving both Medicare and Medicaid. Again, these programs are NOT welfare because you paid into them all of your life. This is what they are for. I hope you will rethink your position because this is not fair for you to go without necessary medication when help is available for you..

Anon: WHAT help? Medicare CLAIMS to pay all but 20%, but they pay a lot less. Nobody knows how MUCH less. Nobody has "paid into" Medicaid. It is completely welfare. As a former paramedic, I know all about Medicaid. The pay for your medicine" thing has only been in existence for a few years and nobody has "paid into" it. Its very existence, the the fact it is MANDATORY screwed up what I had set up to get this medicine. They made it ILLEGAL for the manufacturer to supply me "if I was in this program." Then they FORCED me into this program. Ergo, I'm "in this program" whether I want it or not. Why should I benefit from Obama's people's oversight?

Contact your congressman. He is either a good guy who will help, or he will help because it is good PR. Either way, you get help. You could also talk to your area's "on your side" tv channel. Such health care issues are big news these days.

I don't blam you for feeling so angry. There is a lot going on in my own life about which I am livid, too. I know how you feel. But please push to make the system work for you. Bring up its shortcomings to the agencies. Write CMS and tell them the troubles you are having. Don't just give up and live without the medication you need.

Anon: I've tried fighting the bureaucracy before. It doesn't work. The bureaucrats just say "that's the way we do it, so go to hell." (I added that last part)

Anon: Or he could ignore me, which is much more probable. The last suggestion is a lot better. I've thought about that myself. Sometimes a little TV time gets a lot of action. But you have to get the attention of the TV folks first.

"Drug Prices to Plummet in Wave of Expiring Patents"

You may soon be able to afford your medication!

Anon: The way I understand it, Plavix won't be cheaper until 2013. I may not make it that far.

How about switching to a less expensive brand until then. Anyway, even if Plavix is still too expensive there will be generics that are less expensive. The patents expiring means competition in the form of generics. That will lower the prices.

Anon: The last I heard there WAS no "less expensive alternative" that did the same thing as Plavix.
