William Buckley: From Both Sides
The Left: "Conservative author, essayist, columnist, pundit, smug asshole, gadabout, secret spook, and blue-blooded creep William F. Buckley is dead. Buckley, 82, suffered from diabetes and emphysema, though his cause of death is not yet known. And with him died respectable, intelligent, genteel-but-cut-throat New York Conservatism." I don't think so. What about the magazine he founded that has thrived after his retirement from its helm? What about the "conservative juggernaut" he spawned that resulted in Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, and others, who are no longer afraid to speak out? What about the "right-wing conspiracy" Hillary is so afraid of? " The Right: I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of William F. Buckley, Jr. today. For over 50 years Bill Buckley made an enormous contribution to American culture and politics. He will be remembered as the father of the modern conservative movement. Thankfully, his legacy will continue in the National Review, the recognized standard bearer he founded over 50 years ago."(The Corner)" The liberals and the socialists (one in the same) would like to bury conservatism with Bill Buckley, but they're never going to be able to do it. Buckley himself said it: "We'll be around long after you've written my obituary." When Buckley started, he was very much alone. But he gave budding conservative writers a place for their writings and that spawned other sources, sources which will continue to spread the word about individuality, rather than collectivism, until individuality triumphs.
