Too Far the Other Way

Incompetent politicians in Nelson, Georgia, instead of simply making it easier to get a “carry permit,” want to FORCE residents to BUY a gun. That’s how incompetent politicians with delusions of grandeur ALL seem to think: got a problem? FORCE somebody to do something, even if it’s the right thing. Thinking of the RIGHT WAY to limit gun violence, such as punishing USE of guns in crimes with no ability to “drop those gun charges” to obtain the criminal’s cooperation in convicting him on other crimes just seems to be something they cannot even THINK about. When are we going to start electing COMPETENT people to office? The new Nelson, GA ordinance specifies NO penalty, which makes it useless. And all you have to do to be allowed to ignore it is to object. They say they’re “just making a point.” What point does a stupid, AND useless ordinance make? (Mail.com)

I read about that, but it also said that it was more symbolic (sending the feds a message that some states will not put up with this gun grab) than serious and that no one who did not want to own a gun would be forced. If I find that article I will post it. I agree. No one should be forced to buy something, but since we have been forced to buy insurance I guess they can now force us to buy anything they want.

Anon: There's a difference: they force us to have insurance to pay for auto accidents. we don't have to have a car. In this case, they force us to buy insurance if we're BREATHING. I don't agree with either, but as a victim of somebody with no insurance on his car, I do sympathize.

That's true. You breath, you are forced to buy health insurance under obamanationcare.

It should come down to responsibility. No insurance, you pay on your own if you get sick. It is your choice to make. You take responsibility for yourself and your own actions or inactions. The guy who hit you and had no car insurance should still have to pay OR go to prison, depending on how badly you were hurt without you having to get a lawyer. The point is government has no business telling us what we should buy. obamanationcare's so-called "individual mandate" has opened the door to government forcing us to buy all manner of things. What's next? Forcing us to make financial contributions to specified entities that are deemed "for our own good"? With this government, you give them an inch and they will take 456,000,000,000 miles. Can't trust them!

Anon: You're right, of course; the government should not EVER have the right to force us to BUY ANYTHING. My comment was that "I understand" them in the car insurance thing, not that I APPROVED. In New York, they want to STOP us from buying pop over 15 oz.Where does it stop? Personally, I think consuming soft drinks in large amounts over a lifetime is bad for you. (My son does it, but all I can do is advise him that it is bad for him) But it's not the government's right to tell an ADULT what he/she can or cannot consume. But some politicians think they have that right, since "they're smarter than we are."
